TUOMAS KATAJALA

Tenor vocalist

“A singer can’t play the same young lover for his whole career. You have to test your limits and try to sense where you are going.” This is what tenor Tuomas Katajala, one of today’s most internationally successful Finnish singers, has said. He is known as an exceptionally versatile artist, which is reflected in his range of operatic roles.

Katajala, who studied at the Sibelius Academy and supplemented her studies with master classes by Udo Reinemann, won the International Musica Sacra Song Competition in Rome in 2004. Since 2006 she has sung regularly with the Finnish National Opera, where she was a soloist from 2009 to 2014.

Katajala’s international career was given a strong boost by his successful debut at the Glyndebourne Opera Festival in 2015 (Donizetti’s Don Pasquale), and he has since appeared in key tenor roles around the world.

As a concert singer, Katajala has performed not only in Finland but also at the Royal Albert Hall in London, La Scala in Milan, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Leiszhalle in Hamburg, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and numerous music festivals in Europe and Japan.
